‘Matrubhasha Din’ Foreword
Respected Principal, Teachers, our esteemed Chief Guest, and my dear friends, Good morning to everyone present here! Today, we gather to celebrate a day close to our hearts – ‘Matrubhasha Din’, a day dedicated to honoring our mother tongue, Marathi. This day reminds us of the richness of our language, its cultural significance, and the role it plays in shaping our identity.
We are truly privileged to have with us a renowned Marathi playwright, Mr. Desai as our keynote speaker. He has contributed immensely to Marathi literature and theater, inspiring countless individuals with [his/her] creativity and dedication. His works have not only entertained but also educated and enlightened us, making him a true ambassador of our language and culture.
On this special day, let us pledge to cherish and promote our mother tongue. Let us commit to speaking Marathi with pride, reading Marathi literature, and encouraging others to do the same. Our language is not just a means of communication; it is a reflection of our heritage and values.
As the famous Marathi poet, Kusumagraj, once said, “माझ्या मातृभाषेचा
माझ्या हृदयाशी नाते आहे, ते नाते अखंड आहे.” (The bond between my mother tongue and my heart is eternal.) Let us honor this bond and ensure that
Marathi continues to thrive for generations to come.
Thank you, and I now invite our Chief Guest to share [his/her] thoughts with us.

Title: The Dacoit and Buddha
Once upon a time, Lord Buddha was walking through a thick forest on his way to a village to teach people about peace and kindness. As he walked, he heard leaves rustling and footsteps behind him. Suddenly, a dangerous dacoit named Angulimala jumped out, holding a sword. Angulimala was known for his cruelty. He wore a necklace of fingers from the people he had killed and wanted to kill 1,000 people to complete it.
Angulimala shouted, “Stop! Don’t you fear me? I am Angulimala, the terror of this forest. Give me your things, or I will kill you!”
Buddha stayed calm and looked at Angulimala with kindness. He said, “I have stopped, Angulimala. But have you? Have you stopped to think about the pain you cause to others and yourself?”
Angulimala was surprised. No one had ever spoken to him like this. He asked, “What do you mean? I am strong. I take what I want, and no one can stop me.”
Buddha smiled and said, “Real strength is not in hurting others but in controlling yourself. Your actions may give you temporary happiness, but they bring you lasting pain. Why not stop this cycle of violence and find peace within?”
Angulimala felt something change inside him. He had never thought about his actions or the chance to change. Moved by Buddha’s words, he dropped his sword and fell to his knees. “Can someone like me ever find peace?” he asked, his voice shaking.
Buddha gently placed a hand on Angulimala’s shoulder and said, “It’s never too late to change. The path to peace is open to everyone who seeks it.”
From that day, Angulimala left his life of crime and became a follower of Buddha. He spent his life helping others and teaching about kindness and forgiveness. The once-feared dacoit became a symbol of change, showing that even the hardest hearts can find peace through love and wisdom.
This story of Angulimala and Buddha reminds us that no one is beyond hope, and everyone can change for the better.

Jai Maharashtra! Jai Marathi!

B2 Develop A Story
Develop a story of a dacoit and Buddha. You may begin with….
Once upon a time Lord Buddha was ……..
